This is Camp Wingra’s 16th year, and we have built a reputation for outstanding kid-centered camps. Campers return year after year, and our camps fill quickly. One of the main reasons for this is that every year, we have EXCELLENT staff. We are looking for new staff to continue this tradition of providing high-quality and individualized outdoor summer camps to kids in Madison.
Fishing Camp Counselor
Summer 2025 Mon- Fri June 4th - Aug. 22nd
Camp Wingra is looking for college students who love being outdoors on the water, have experience fishing, and want to spend a rewarding summer working with kids. If you love kids, want to share your fishing knowledge, and want to spend your summer fishing and paddling on Madison's lakes, please apply.
Outdoor & Paddling Camp Counselor
Camp Wingra is looking for college students who love being outdoors on the water paddling and want to spend a rewarding summer working with kids. If you love kids and love to swim and paddle, please apply. We are looking for an experienced individual who is dependable, works well with others, is self-motivated, and understands what it takes to keep kids engaged and safe. We are looking to hire counselors who love the outdoors, have experience paddling, have strong swimming skills, can lift and portage canoes and kayaks, and have a high level of energy and enthusiasm all day, every day. Camp Wingra is a community staple, and our counselors pride themselves on being role models for our campers.

The 2025 summer season will go from June 4th to August 22nd.
If hired, you must be available from June 4th until Aug. 22nd with one week off June 28th-July 6th. Typical hours are Mon-Fri from 7:30am-approx 4:30 pm. Counselors receive a weekly salary starting at $525. Counselors will also have free access to Wingra, Brittingham, and Marshall Boats 300+ watercraft in your off hours. Staff often comment that this is the best summer job!

Location: Camp Wingra operates out of two fantastic locations: Wingra Boats at 824 Knickerbocker Street (off Monroe Street) and Marshall Boats at 2101 Allen Blvd (off University Ave.).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

HAVE FUN, AND BE FUN!

Plan out and structure the week's activities.

Facilitate ice breakers & team building activities.

Instruct campers on boating skills and water safety.
-
Create an inclusive atmosphere & work cooperatively with other co-counselors.

Perform administrative tasks, including calling camp parents, writing daily recaps, filling out forms, and all other tasks as needed to create an incredible experience for the campers.
Qualifications:

Applicants need to have their boater safety certification (a short online course) by the start of camp.

Applicants will receive additional training but should have some boating experience.
-
You should be organized, responsible, and enjoy being with children.

Previous camp experience is a plus.

Assistant Day Camp Coordinator

Camp Wingra is seeking a full-time, seasonal Assistant Camp Coordinator for the summer (mid-May - to End of August). This position will work directly with campers and counselors and will also include administrative and operational support for the day camp. We are looking for individuals with previous experience as a camp counselor or working with youth who are eager to expand their skills in education, leadership, management, or outdoor education and management. While prior experience with paddling or fishing is not required, an strong love of the outdoors and a willingness to spend the entire day outdoors is essential.

* Although this position is just for this summer 2025, there is a possibility for this to extend part time during the school year as well, if the candidate is interested.

Qualifications:

Drivers License
-
Personal Car to get to and from locations (additional monthly stipend for gas)

Experience working with kids in a group setting
-
Strong organizational skills
-
Previous leadership or management experience
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-
Previous experience in first aid, lifeguarding, CPR or other risk management experience (no certifications required).
Responsibilities:
-
Collaborate closely with campers and counselors daily to ensure a positive camp experience.
-
Work collaboratively with the Camp Director
-
Oversee the daily check-in and check-out procedures for campers.
-
Maintain open communication with parents, provide updates and addressing concerns as needed.
-
Facilitate and lead staff meetings to ensure alignment on camp operations and objectives.
-
Organize and maintain camp areas, ensuring they are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
-
Provide support by stepping in as a substitute for camp counselors in the event of illness or absence.
-
Assist in the transportation of boats and equipment to and from the boathouse.
-
Manage risk assessment protocols and oversee the implementation of behavioral management plans.
This position will be Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 4:00 p.m., and the weekly starting salary is $675, depending on experience. The position also includes a small stipend for gas and a 3 Lakes Membership to Madison Boats, which allows you to use any of our boats when you are not working.
